How to Make a Lotus Bag

MATERIALS
80cm x 80cm of velvet or cordaroy fabric for main bag
Approx 6 velcro dots per bag
Matching threads
74cm x 77cm calico or sheeting for lining

SIMPLE VERSION
Cut Lotus Bag aprox 40cm x 40cm circle (without stem). Sew up as instructed below. Use a cloth nappy or towling to wrap placenta instead of lining.

TRADITIONAL LOTUS BAG

1. Trace a 40cm x 40cm circle on wrong side of fabric. Add a stem if you wish, aprox 12cm wide x 40cm long.

2. Cut out lotus bag. (1.5 seam allowance is included)

3. Starting from top opening, sew one side together around ¾ of the circle to where the opening will be.

4. Clip circle & trim seams. Hem the top opening.

5. Starting from top opening hem the side seams. Clip the corners so fabric lays flat. Reinforce the corners with extra stitches if you like.

6. Iron seams flat & press the velcro dots on inside hem.

7. Repeat for lining, cutting it a little smaller so it will fit inside the outer bag. Aprox 37cm x 37cm with a 9cm width stem.
